Stellenbosch (or the City of Oaks or Eikestad) is a town in South Africa. It is located in the Western Cape province on the Atlantic Ocean Coast in the heart of the Cape Winelands, South Africa's prime wine region and situated on the Eerste River (First River) banks. Stellenbosch is the second oldest settlement after Cape Town, it was founded in 1679 by Simon van der Stel and has some fine examples of Cape Dutch architecturem in the Oak-lined streets. It is undoubtedly the most scenically attractive and historically preserved town in southern Africa. Stellenbosch is surrounded by beautiful white beaches, vineyards, mountains and orchards offering perfect areas for adventurers, nature lovers, sport lovers and photographers and painters.
